See our head to head comparison between our 24 volt Greenstation Lawn N-1 and the 36 volt competition. We contend that–-despite any marketing hype–-the voltage makes little difference in the performance of a cordless electric lawn mower. We look for motor efficiency, run time, and the quality of the cut. Also see our clip comparing our Lawn N-1 for $160 to the competition’s $100 model. It’s worth the investment. You’ll see.

Is the battery fully charged when it is new out of the box?
No – We recommend that you “top off” the charge for 30 minutes to an hours before its first use. Once the LED indicator light is green on the charger, the battery is ready to use. Never fully discharge your battery completely down to zero. When the mower sounds like it is running out of steam or laboring, this is an indication that you should charge the battery.
What else should I know to get the best performance?
For the first and second mowing, you should operate your lawn mower using two “gentle cycles:” cutting at a higher height and running it down no further than the yellow LED indicator light. Then recharge to full capacity. Do this procedure two times and you will optimize the performance and longevity of your battery. If at any time you hear the motor laboring–regardless of what the LED indicates–stop and recharge the battery overnight.
Can I leave my battery plugged into the charger after it is fully charged?
No. It is best to disconnect the charger once your battery is fully charged. If you are planning an extended period of time without use, we recommend charging the battery fully and then disconnecting the charger. If your battery is shelved for an extended period of time , it is essential that you charge your battery at least every 10 to 12 weeks. Make sure to disconnect the charger once fully charged. Moreover, the use of a power-strip with a surge protector when recharging any rechargeable battery is highly recommended.
How long does it take to recharge the battery?
It takes approximately 12 hours to get a 100% charge from a fully depleted battery – basically overnight. Your battery should never be stored in a discharged state. Once you are done mowing, it is very important to plug the battery in for charging.
Special battery instruction for extreme heat regions.
Proper battery care and maintenance is essential to successfully “going” cordless electric. We urge the growing community of electric lawn and garden equipment users to take a practical and informed approach for the care of your new power source.
How heat and loading affect battery life.
Heat is an enemy of all batteries and operating, recharging and storing batteries in high temperatures should be avoided when possible. Morning mowing is ideal during the extreme high heat season. As a guideline each 15 degree rise in temperature shortens the life of a sealed lead acid battery by about half. For example, a sealed lead acid battery (SLA) used in stationary application that would normally last 10 years at 78 degrees would only last five years if operated constantly at 92 degrees. Furthermore this same battery would desist after two and a half years if kept at a constant desert temperature of 106 degrees. Once the battery is damaged by heat, the capacity cannot be restored. The life of the battery also depends on the activity and is shortened if the battery is stresses beyond its intended usage. Your mower is rated to be used once a week for a residential setting in order to maximize the battery’s service life.
Do not charge of store your battery in a tin shelter, under the hot sun or in an unventilated room with temperatures exceeding 80 degrees.
It is ideal to mow your lawn in ambient temperatures between 65-80 degrees.
Sealed Lead Acid Batteries
Lead acid batteries are the oldest type of rechargeable battery. It’s essential to recycle them because of the hazardous materials (and valuable resources) inside them.
Over 97 percent of all battery lead used in automotive and commercial batteries between 1997 and 2001 was recycled, making lead acid battery recycling one of the most successful recycling programs in the world.
Nickel-Cadmium Batteries (NiCd)
NiCd batteries are used in low- to moderate-discharge devices such as scanners, portable radios, cordless phones and power tools. Because these batteries contain cadmium, a toxic heavy metal, they require special disposal. In the U.S., there is a fee built into the price for nickel cadmium batteries, which includes proper disposal of the batteries at the end of their lifetimes through the RBRC program. All NiCd batteries are identified by EPA as hazardous waste and must be recycled.
